     Suitable Communication                     Channels

Effective business communications are an essential part of a successful

organization. Clear and direct communication increases productivity, attitude, and results

and a higher employee retention rate.

The following artifacts and accompanying information

demonstrate my mastery of leadership theories and concepts in context.

  • Artifact: Collaborative and Adaptive Leadership Essay

    • LDRS 302: Introduction to Leadership Behavior

    • This Collaborative and Adaptive Leadership Essay demonstrates my achievement of the outcome establishing Suitable Communication Channels by allowing me to understand the importance of the Collaborative Leadership strategy and the seven main factors that are associated with this strategy AND the importance of Adaptive Leadership and the four main principles of that. Throughout the LDRS 302 Introduction to Leadership Behavior course, I was given the opportunity to understand the important factors of collaborative and adaptive leadership and was given the skills to understand the importance of creating effective and Suitable Communication Channels in order to be an effective leader.

The seven main factors associated with Collaborative Leadership are:

                 1. Having a shared specific purpose or interest.

                 2. Wanting to pursue a collaborative solution and a willingness to

                     contribute.

                 3. Including the necessary people.

                 4. Willing to be a part of an open and credible process.

                 5. Having credibility.

                 6. Being surrounded by trusting relationships.

                 7. Having the skills to be a collaborative leader.

The four main principles of Adaptive Leadership are:

                  1. Distributing the leadership opportunities amongst all people.

                  2. Accessing the most talent from each individual.

                  3. Ensuring that all members are transparent in decision making.

                  4. Developing trust.

The combination of these two styles generates the most power and the                 most buy-in from those I am leading. This understanding of the                           importance of each of these theories individually, and the power of                     these theories when successfully combined, is what brought me to                       truly knowing the impact a leader can have when communication is

strong and when a leader has the skills to create Suitable

Communication Channels that open up an appropriate dialogue

amongst all stakeholders at all levels.

  • Artifact: Final Leadership Reflection

    • LDRS 670: Leadership and Personal Development

    • The Final Leadership Reflection assigned for the Leadership and Personal Development course was an important element of the LDRS 670 course. The final reflections derived from this evaluation provided me with clarity and allowed me to see proof of my ability to demonstrate my mastery of the Suitable Communication Channels concept.

              My identified strengths:

                    - Empathy

                    - Written Communication Skills

                    - Oral Communication Skills

                    - Actively Contributing Communication Skills

                    - Actively Listening

                    - Credibility

                My identified areas of growth:

                    - Need to Grow and Take Risks

                    - Lack of Persistence

                    - Appropriateness in Addressing Interpersonal Conflict                              - Tolerance of and Responsiveness to Ambiguous Scenarios

I was able to identify two areas I wanted to change. In order to

show growth in the concept of creating Suitable                                          Communication Channels, I made a commitment to improve my                overall consistency to being persistent. The situational setbacks                outlined in my feedback articulated that I am sometimes viewed                as unwilling to go above and beyond in order to see an idea                        come to fruition. Improvement in this area will combat the                        perception that I am unwilling or unable to see a project to the                  finish line. Secondly, I set a goal to be more tolerant and more                  responsive in situations that may be more ambiguous.

It is important for me to be viewed as a leader that is willing to                  lead even in situations that are messier and that I have the

reputation that I have the skills necessary to create Suitable                        Communication Channels in order to ensure success.
